Good: Relaxing atmosphere. The beach resort is not really near anything so if your just looking to relax and get away from it all it's a good place. We rented a cabin and it was very clean and comfortable. The Buffet dinner and "cultural” floor show we attended on the first day was enjoyable (even if a bit pricey). There are two pools available (adult and kiddy) and, the adult pool has a water massage system. Housekeeping and maintenance staff is very friendly Bad: Pretty pricey. Everything seemed to have a fee. This resort tends to cater to Taiwanese tour groups. The term "descend like locust" applies especially at the buffet. As I said above the beach resort is not really near anything so if your into sight seeing you have some traveling ahead of you. The pools are sorely in need of cleaning and resurfacing. The desk staff tended to be a bit on the dense side. I speak some tagolag and my wife is Filipino and for some reason they couldn't, or wouldn't, grasp our requests. One day I found a bee nest right outside my cabin door and I asked for them to have someone remove it. 24 hours later the nest was still there. I had to ask FOUR times to have someone take care of it before something got done. Overall I'd have to say my stay was OK but I will not be going back to Nipa Beach Resort. Everything seemed to have a fee and the fees were rather high.

The staff was mostly friendly but the management was not very accommodating . I don't know whether it was a communication problem or what! - I spoke the national language. During our booking and check-in. we verified if they accepted credit cards - they said yes they did. When I started to charge meals and snacks on my credit card they wanted me to accrue the charges and just settle with them at the end of our stay so that there will only be one transaction ( I understood that they might not want to pay several transaction fees so I agreed. ). Come check out time, they said they can't take our credit cards - my husband and I have a great credit( Our cards went through in our other transactions elsewhere in Laoag city and other places in the Philippines). It was good that my husband carried enough cash in him to cover our expenses. Unless your a Taiwanese, this is not the place for you- all written instruction are in Chinese. The food was awful and expensive except for the luau ( thurs night )where they served regular (Filipino food) .They served mostly Taiwanese food - believe me it is not the same Chinese food you know!. Do not get the breakfast buffet ( it includes nasty porridge and preserved fish like it was soaked in some chemical) if you are adventurous enough to stay at this resort - just order ala carte ( ham- was like a processed rubber-like meat) It is cheaper for you in the long run because you can only stomach the egg , bread and fruit anyways!During the end of 3nd day we were ready to check out but unfortunately we used our full week of exchange. We just mostly ate ham and egg sandwiches for breakfast and lunch. At one point , when my niece tried to order her usual fare of ham and egg sandwich , they said they were out of ham , they do have ham but it is in the freezer and needs to be defrosted and that won't be done until the next day. Huh??? and, they have to get the manager's approval for that if we want it today. Huh??? so, my niece ordered a cheese and egg sandwich instead . The waiter came back and said "I have good news and bad news , we can defrost the ham for you but we ran out of bread". Who runs out of bread ?It was so ridiculously funny, I can't get mad at the poor guy! We made friends with one seasoned Taiwanese traveler and she too shares our disappointment and opinion - she said " what is the point of going to another country only to eat the same stuff we have back home?" She was the one who told us to get out of the resort and take a tricycle and bus to town ( cheaper than the hotel's tour) to see the sights and eat decent food.We had more fun and ate well in town by ourselves. One morning , during a morning walk at the resort,I spied where the employees ate and bought breakfast - it was better and cheaper. On the 5th day of our stay, we happened by a snack vendor - we ate her fare like we were rescued from a shipwreck and w/o food for days!!!! we stayed in a cottage with a loft .Our unit was roomy and the beddings were changed daily. However when we arrived, the wooden floors were dirty and dusty and the bathroom esp. the shower was disgusting. we killed at least a couple of cockroaches each night. I had my 1 year old son with us at that time and it was difficult to keep him from touching the tiles and bathroom fixtures. It was the filthiest shower head and faucets I have ever seen. The ceiling in the bathroom has black mold, the shower heads had deposits of mildew and minerals. The shower drain was missing it's cover and you can see a lot of crud down it plus a sewer like odor emanated from it. One night, we all decided to go for a stroll and have some ice cream at the snack bar. My niece left the porch light and a lamp on in the bedroom for security. When we came back to our unit,as we opened the door, my nieces were screaming at the top of their lungs! The whole unit was infested with about a thousand flying termites coming at us from every direction . We called maintenance and they were very prompt and responsive- they came in with a can of Raid and someone from housekeeping swept off the dead bugs. They stuffed some rugs and towels in the spaces between the door and windows. A few minutes after they have left, hundreds of termites came in again and the girls were terrified and screaming again. We went thru the same routine and they recommended that we keep the lights off. So. we all showered in the dark and girls were too terrified to sleep. The next day I got some duct tape and sealed all the holes in the walls -the termites were coming out in between the spaces of the air conditioning unit , the windows and walls of the bathroom too .It was like a page out of Alfred Hitchcock's " The Birds" The staff said that was a normal occurrence during the summer months - I don't think so!! A word to the Owner/Management : PEST CONTROL!!!! They were not mosquitoes - they are termites that are eating away at your buildings! They had regular pool and 3 colored heated pool ( supposedly medicinal ) . The bigger was passable ( but not that clean( water was bit murky) but the other 3 pools were downright nasty - it looked like it was infectious rather than therapeutic. They demand that you shower before swimming - the showers were disgusting - from a scale of 1-10 , it was a 12 !!!!!! The end of our days there were a relief! It was horrible from the beginning to the end. I couldn't apologize enough to my teenage nieces for inviting them to go on this trip with me ,my husband and baby. I swore to them that I have never ever had a more disastrous exchange like this one. I bet that they will think 2x next time we visit the Philippine and I invite them for an out of town trip again. The pictures are pretty and as I said unless you like Taiwanese food , can read Chinese and live like " The Survivor " this is not the place for you. once we arrived in Manila , I swear my nieces kissed the ground!! It was fortunate my mom made some spaghetti and we ate like wolves! Anewor
