We are MVC owners at Newport Coast and our opinions are based somewhat on our experience there (we endorse that resport 100%) This review of Marriot's Grand Chateau (GC) is limited to our pool experiences during Easter Break 2008 because we did not say at GC during our visits to the pool (we stayed at the next door property Carriage House, but we were allowed to use the pool at GC due to Carriage House pool repairs). In short, our pool experiences were the worst of any timeshare or hotel property we have visited in the last 7 years. We normally stay at resorts that cater to families (we have three children, including an infant). The GC pool area consists of one pool and one spa situated on the roof. While the roof provides an excellent view of the Las Vegas strip and the viewing area is next to the pool bar, the spa was "dominated" on Palm Sunday by a group of foul mouthed twenty somethings who confused the GC pool for the Hard Rock pool. This group did not even bother to patronage the pool bar, electing instead to bring their own vodka, beer, and mixed drinks. As their alcoholic beverages were in plastic containers, they were in compliance with house rules as explained to me by security personnel. What bothered me the most is most young people I know tone it down when young kids are around. Not this group. To top it off, one of the group members had the audacity to ask me and a mom if we had a light so he could smoke his cigar in the spa around our children. Talk about hootzpa. We revisisted the pool area on Tuesday of Easter break. This time, the pool crowd was more family oriented, but toward the end of our visit, another group of beer toting twentysomethings dropped by to dominate the spa area. We're going back to the pool area later today, but primarily to have my wife view the pool and to take snapshots and video from the viewing area. As a result of my pool experiences, I am less willing to buy this timeshare (we own 1 week at Marriot's Newport Coast and EOY Odd in Maui) because of the pool. If I were a MVC salesperson, I would do something about the pool's alcoholic beverage policy because if the policy is not changed, I doubt that owners with families will want to buy into this property. For my money, I am reconsidering Hiltons Grand Vacation on the Las Vegas Strip, which I have stayed twice and had excellent experiences. -Review courtesy of Mike (stayed during Mar, 2008) |

I just finished my stay at the Marriott Grand Chateau and I have to say that it was really, really good. What I appreciate the most is the location, location, location! I was right in between PH, MGM and right in front of the what will be CityCenter (still under construction but it already looks out of this world), close by is Bellagio, NYNY, and Paris. To go eat, shop, or do the nightlife all I have to do is cross Harmon St. and go into The Miracle Mile Shops at PH and you have everything available to you, from the time you leave your room it takes you less than 5 minutes to get there walking. Now, the resort itself is very nice. It is very elegant but it still feels very homey. It is clean, quiet, and the staff is very nice, and attentive. The rooms are fully equipped with flat screen TV's, DVD player, radio/CD player, cable TV, free WiFi internet, fully stocked kitchen, very comfortable beds, even a washer and dryer, ohh and also very clean. The gym is okay, it has everything that you need to do a full workout. In the locker room area you have a steam room, showers, and complimentary creams, razors, mouthwash, etc. The only thing negative that I have to say about this place is about the pool. It is small. It has a rooftop pool which is great, it comes with espectacular views of the whole city, just this makes it a great bonus, but the pool can get very crowded with just a few people. On the rooftop you also have a bar area (small too) but you are also allowed to bring your own drinks, which in my opinion is great too. The issue with the pool should be fixed when they finish construction which will add a second pool on the bottom of the resort. Overall, you will get a lot more for the money than other comparable options like similar timeshare resorts close by or by just paying a room/penthouse at a hotel. -Review courtesy of Rick (stayed during Aug, 2008) |
