The Coral Reef Beach Resort was a nightmare. We arrived about 4:00 from Tennessee and we found a deserted, boarded up. overgrown pink ugly resort. We eventually found a graveled driveway that took us to a construction dumpster and a small parking area. We finally found the small office after passing by scaffolds where a part of the condo is being renovated. My children were crying because this place looked like it was bring demolished! There was yellow tape around the pool. I told them to not panic, that our room might be nice and away from all the construction. We were not that lucky however, our room had a scaffold in front of the door! Imagine that view..a scaffold and yellow tape! It was Sat.so I can only imagine the noise of the rennovations on a weekday. We quickly decided we could not stay here because not only was it an eyesore, and the room had a musty odor and didn't appear clean. I felt we were not safe. I asked the clerk to provide us with a room that was not in the middle of being rennovated but was told none were available so we left. Now the nightmare begins! As we passed by our intended room, on our way to our car, wood and plaster began falling on the scaffold we were going beneath! We were covered in material and by then, I was crying with my children. I had foreign material in both my eyes and so did my daughter. I was able to wash my eyes clean but it destroyed her contact so the rest of our week was uncomfortable for her to say the least. I can not believe the good reviews and the photos I saw on the web prior to making my reservation there. It did not look anything like the photos. it looks like something that is about to fall! I can't believe the city of St. Pete allows this dangerous place to remain open while it is being "rennovated". It is unsafe and our injuries to our eyes proved that, so if this review saves one person's vacation, then it was worth taking the time to write it. I would like to add, we went up the road and found a wonderful and clean condo at the Gulf Strand Resort.

We stayed here the first week of January. The place is terrible. You park in a sketchy parking lot by the dumpster and enter the "resort" through the electrical room. The "heated" pool was too cold for teenagers to swim. The hot tubs were broken. The furniture was from the 60's and terribly uncomfortable. There were no balconies to sit outside only walkways in front of your door. The Tiki Huts had holes in the thatched roofs. The lounge chairs looked like they had never been cleaned. The view was of another hotel. Even the cooking utensils were unusable and we had to purchase our own. The outside walls had green mold on them. With so many other places along the beach there is no reason to ever stay at this one.

We have stayed many times at the Coral Reef and have always had a good time. The other reviews? We stay on the direct beachfront. The resort sits behind a nasty old hotel that was slated to be torn down for condos. The rooms are small but clean and renovated. The place is a little hard to find the first tiime but when you come in turn left and park there. The balconies are not private but it is like a family and people talk more than at other resorts. We have been invited for drinks snacks etc. The food around there is good and reasonable. There is a nice Publix just down the street. The place is more private than most due to the closed hotel which wraps around part of the very big but worn pool. All in all, a quiet friendly family place.
