The Portofino is our timeshare that we visited for the first time in November 2005. I was somewhat guarded as to what kind of resort this was. I could only find one review which was favourable, but was wondering why no other reviews were posted. Anyway, we arrived at our hotel, we had a very friendly greeting from Marco the manager on site, and after following our bell hop up many flights of spanish style stairways, we arrived at our suite. We were pleasantly surprised. It was quite a big suite with 2 large bedrooms on either side of the kitchen, living area. Each bedroom had a large bathroom, and a bay window with a window seat, and a large fan above the bed, as well as airconditioning that we could control. The suite had a large private balcony with a table and chairs for eating and lounge chairs. It was very private and overlooked the pool and the little town of Cabo. The next morning of our arrival we had a orientation in the main office with Marco and other guests. Any questions or concerns could be addressed. We enjoyed the short walk to the little shops and restaurants. There were many restaurants to choose from. We had beautiful weather in November. We could walk to the beach, good exercise, at least 15 minutes worth, through the town to the other side. Taxi's were always available. When we bought some food for the suite, we took a taxi back again. We had peso's and us dollars with us. It seemed to me, the shops preferred us dollars. What we did not like was the experience at the airport. Deluged with timeshare people wanting us to book a presentation time in exchange for all kinds of goodies, ie free taxi service to hotel, bottles of liquor, dinner boat rides. We just wanted a ride to our hotel, so we did agree to a timeshare presentation. It was so confusing, no matter if you kept walking, turned right or left, these people wanted to help get you to your hotel, but first book a presentation time. That was not a nice welcome. This hotel was not a regular resort with all ammenities on site. We did enjoy our first experience to Cabo San Lucas and we did enjoy the Portofino. The next time we go, we might ask friends along, as I found the suite layout afforded enough privacy for 2 couples, a family, or just girlfriends.

I stayed at the Portofino from OCt 6 to the 10th. Heres how I wrap this place up: 1. I had no hot water for 90% of my stay. this was also true with 3 other rooms. 2. when I asked for Cab rides, they were always telling me it was twice as high as the cab driver said it was... 3. Alot of steps, but it is close to the city. So, how much Mexico are you ready to indulge is the question?

We returned a week ago from our vacation at Portofino Resort in Cabo. We found the resort to be centrally located within short distances to shopping, beach, restaurants, etc. Car rental was unnecessary as the cabs were nearly right outside the front gate--fares were negotiable. We found that $10 US could take you most anywhere in the city. Car rental was one block away for those who wished to explore. The marina and all it's shops were a very short walk--about 10 to 15 minutes. The cantina next door has excellent food and the music would go on until about 11pm but with the air conditioner operating, was not a problem. We appreciated the gated resort with security there at all times. There was no elevator but the stairs were not a problem from us--unless you're coming back from a all day walk--then you take it slow. Pool was very nice. Found the management to be very helpful and hospitable. Our room was exceptional--much more than we had expected. The view from our veranda was beautiful and now we understand the full meaning of siesta. Our maid service was also very good. Enjoyed our stay, plan to return. P.S. Caught my first marlin in Cabo!!

Another couple, my husband and I stayed at the Portofino Resort for a week. We really enjoyed our stay in Cabo. Our villa was both spacious and very bright. There were 4 sets of sliding glass doors out onto a very large, covered veranda. We had our breakfast out there every morning. The bedrooms were very spacious with a window seat and adjoining full bath. The units are not new but we found them to have a lot of character, to be clean, and very comfortable. We had read reviews about the loud music at night but that didn't bother us. The ceiling fans kept the unit cool so we did not need to have the sliding doors open. We also read in reviews about all of the stairs. We had 75 steps to get to our villa but they weren't really a problem for us and we are senior citizens! We really liked the location, just a few blocks from the marina and only a block from Hidalgo Street where there are many really good restaurants with every cuisine. The bank to exchange money is just a block away. We did take the bus to go to Wal-Mart to stock up on groceries and water, but we walked everywhere else. There are lots of inexpensive fun things to do in Cabo. We all went parasailing. The guys both caught marlin on a fishing trip. We also took a ride on a glass bottom boat to see the famous arch, sea lions, and of course lots of fish. We have traveled with our time share all over Mexico and this is our favorite destination so far. Go...you'll be glad that you did!
