My family had been coming to La Montagne for over a decade in the 1980s and 1990s and I had fond memories of days on the beach, playing golf with my father and brother and long nights in the games room playing ten pin bowling, the latest arcade games and flirting with bikini-clad girls. Because of this, the resort was rather built up in my mind when I took my girlfriend (now my wife) for a beach break in 2002. We arrived on a rainy Friday afternoon to an extremely rude front dest person, who didn't even greet us. We were taken up to our room which can only be described as a hamster hutch, where we were finally greeted, but by a huge cockroach and other crawley thingys that would have fascinated David Attenborough! There was also a strange smell that we soon discovered permeated the entire hotel. The pool was drained, the restaurants over priced with poor service and poor food and, to add insult to injury, my fabled games room was run down, shabby and dingy. Oh well, at least we had the beach. No such luck - it rained the entire week. We did manage to sneak out for a movie at a shopping centre and a round of golf, but that was it. As luck would have it, the sun shone brightly the day we left! I hope things have improved, but there are better places along the North Coast than this disaster.
