We went to the Mayan Palace in late May/early June 2006. There were 6 of us, which included our 4 year old child. We had a ball, we could not have asked for a better resort. Top of the line resort with tons of things to do, adults and children. We did rent a car/van, which I would advise anyone to do. We drove into Cancun a few nights for dinner and shopping, down to Playa del Carmen and even into Tulum to visit the Ruins. Overall, this resort is a great place, and my family and I can’t wait to re-visit. Yes, they try to get you to attend the free breakfast but we all know they want to sell you something. So if you are not into salesmen or buying a timeshare, DON'T GO! Very good food on the resort, the Italian restaurant is a must to try! The drinks are to die for, and that happy hour from 11:00am-1:00pm at the pool is awesome!!! My only complaint is the beach, and how rocky it is... But the size and the quality of the pool make up for the rocky beach! Thank heavens for the shuttles to and from the pools and the restaurants. Would have been a long walk for some people. Again, I rate this resort top notch; prices on food are like anywhere else in Cancun or Playa del Carmen. And the food is delicious on the resort. The construction did not bother our family; we just wish it would have been complete prior to our stay. More reasons to go back in 3-4 years. We should have bought the timeshare... Beautiful place!!!!!

Beautifull resort. Make sure you bring lots of money for taxi. $50-$70 round trip to Playa De Carmen or Cancun since the resort is located outside of Playa De Carmen and Cancun. Food is good and affordable. Drinks are expensive and you can't pay with money. You are require to place a $400 tab with the Mayan with a credit card. Money deposited with the Mayan is returned to you in Peso's. Lots and Lots of walking. If you have walking problems or walk for a living, don't come here. You will spend a lot of time waiting for a shuttle to the pool or anywhere on the complex. Be aware of the band placed on the wrist. Outside of the resort you may pay double for food, drink, taxi ect. Fancy but limited things to do. Great for honeymooners or Families. But bring lots of money for basic needs. NO BARGAINING HERE.

WOW! I was impressed. It was absolute luxery staying at the Mayan Palace. We stayed in a suite, which is a bed room with a king sized bed, a extra large tub in the room, and a large bathroom. Outside out bedroom was a large, infinity type pool (about typical hot tub size), that was really relaxing. In addition to the bedroom there was a complete living room which could have slept 4 more and a studio type kitchen. It had a small refridgerator, a four burner cook top, microwave, sink, small applicances and new, matching cooking utensils, dishes, flat ware, etc. The pools were the best. We spent seveal days under the fabulous cabanas with thick cushioned queen sized matresses that the staff makes up every morning. There are three beautiful free flowing, expansive pools that overlook the ocean. It is incrediable. The accomodations were great, but the staff made it spectatular. EVERYONE was soooo courteous, friendly and helpful. This is not an all inclusive resort, but it with the available shopping at Playa del Carman we were able to fill in many of our breakfasts and lunches with what we bought at the store locally. The resturants start about at the price of Applebees, Ruby Tuesdays or TGI Fridays and go up. All the food that we ordered exceeded out expectations. I can't wait to go back to one of their resorts.

We had bought in Neuvo so when we went to the Grand Mayan in Cancun we were sadly disappointed. The Grand Mayan itself was not complete, the resort stretches back from the resort parallel to the golf course so there is a lot of time waiting for the shuttle or walking in order to get to the pool/beach area. It is not possible to purchase meal tickets so all the food at the resort is at a premium price. The resort is not near anything for shopping/restaurants so you are limited to what is there unless you want to take a very long taxi or bus ride to town. This is definitely not the same calibre of resort as Nuevo - don't think I would stay there again.

we just got back from our vacation to the grand mayan resort near cancun. the weather was perfect, the resort was beautiful and the service was excellent. the beach on the other hand has alot to be desired. it is so full of rocks in and out of the water, that you can't really enjoy yourself. you might want to go into playa del carmen if you really want to enjoy the beach, no rocks there. but you do need to be prepared to spend alot of money on taxi cabs. because thre resort is located between the playa del carmen and cancun, there is no walking to these places! even tho we had a great time,, this is not a place i would go back to, only because everything is too spread out and far apart. the mayan ruins are a must see!
