If you've dreamt about scuba diving some of the best sites in the world, enjoying local isalnd cuisine, dancing the night away under the starry Caribbean sky, strolling along some of the most beautiful beaches you've ever seen, and more, all at at a reasonable price... now you have the opportunity to do so. Here's your chance to stay at a beautiful, ocean-front Caribbean condo, yet at a lower cost than most hotels in Grand Cayman charge for a standard hotel room with a view of their parking lot!
First, I recommend you do your homework and shop hotel room rates at Grand Cayman properties and see what it costs to get an ocean-front room with one bed and one bath. Check out the amenities, too. Then do the math on the total cost of your stay, taking into account how much room you have and th number of people this can accommodate. Next, compare that to the room rate I'm charging for a huge condo, which includes a fully stocked kitchen (you just bring the food), dining room, living room, large balcony overlooking the Caribbean, as well as all the amenities available to you at the resort. Plus, this sleeps up to 6 people (though we've had 8 stay there, too).
Resort Description:
The resort has plenty of activities to keep singles, couples, and families busy for the entire week -- beach BBQ's, various contests, karaoke, on-site restaurant, on-site scuba diving with Tortuga Divers, dancing, parties, snorkeling, catamaran trips, wind surfing, wave running, and tons more. No need to venture off the property unless you want to.
What you'll love about Morritt's Tortuga Club is the peace and serenity of the East End of Grand Cayman. Because it's on the windward side of the island, there is always a gentle breeze blowing. And while seemingly remote from the hustle and bustle (not to mention traffic) of 7 Mile Beach, in only 45 minutes you can be in the heart of Georgetown.
The resort has had many recent updates in the last 2 years, including the furniture, the paint, and the amenities. Typical Caribbean decor can be found throughout the resort, with lots of ceiling fans to keep you cool day or night. And don't worry, there is air conditioning in the unit for those who want to chill out in their room.
Unit Description:
This is an Ocean-Front, PENTHOUSE unit (top floor) that includes:
- 2 bedrooms (with private entrance to guest room)
- 2 full bathrooms
- full kitchen with all appliances, dishes, cutlery, glassware, etc. (just add the food - purchase at the local grocery store. BTW, we bring one suitcase with dry goods to eat for the week to keep the cost down -- cereal, pasta, sugar, snacks, coffee/tea bgs, instant breakfast packs, etc.)
- dining room (seats 6)
- living room with pull out queen size sleeper sofa, tv, cable, etc.
- 4 large sliding doors that open to huge balcony (unbelievable Caribbean view)
- maid serivce throughout the week
* NOTE: the resorts and hotels in Grand Cayman charge their guests a fee for electricity use during their stay. This charge is not part of the rental fee and is charged directly by the resort upon checkout.
Nearby Attractions:
Grand Cayman suffers from no shortage of things to do, see, and experience. Start your morning 'swimming with the fishes' at Stingray City, snorkeling one of the reefs around the island, or exploring the shipwrecks near East End. If hiking is your thing, an excursion on the Mastic Trail is in order. Nearby, Queen Elizabeth II Botanic Park, a majestic 65-acre park, is home to rare collections of native flora and fauna. Of course, Grand Cayman's top draws are its world-class beaches, including Rum Beach, Sandy Point, and Seven Mile Beach.
Most of what you want to experience can be done at, or through, the resort. There are also restaurants nearby, as well as other site seeing attractions but these all require the use of a car (easily rented at the airport upon arrival or at Morritt's when you're there). Driving to Georgetown will take about 45 minutes, but the drive along the southern coast is beautiful and peaceful. Spend the day shopping and eating, watch the sunset, the drive 'home' to Morritt's. What a great way to spend the day!
Nearby Restaurants:
Restaurants on the island come and go, but some close by recommendations would be:
- Arlain's Restaurant
- David's (on-site at Morritt's)
- Lighthouse Restaurant
- Pelican's Reef
- Portofino Wreck View
There are many great restaurants on Seven Mile Beach, West Bay, and Rum Point, as well. Rent a car and explore the island. It's the only way to do Grand Cayman.
