Los Cabos is at the southern tip of Mexico’s Baja California peninsula. The breathtaking scenic contrasts can best be appreciated from the air: Looking across the Sea of Cortés (which separates the Baja from the rest of Mexico) the visitor first sees the craggy peaks of the Sierra de la Laguna forming a backdrop to miles of golden beach, blue water and dramatic red rock formations; Saguaro cactus, palms and cultivated gardens cover the pale golden desert landscape.
Cabo San Lucas is best identified by the image of the world famous rock arch formation, “El Arco”, where the Pacific Ocean meets the warm waters of the Sea of Cortés. Like many of its hotels, the name “Los Cabos” is a recent addition: it means “The Capes”.

Shopping: Many stores in Los Cabos are found in old colonial buildings. Jewelry, especially black coral, and resort wear are the best buys. Stores also carry crafts, including pewter, Mexican ceramics, wood furniture and woven rugs.
Dining: There are dozens of fine restaurants in Los Cabos, covering an ample range of cuisines, styles and sundries. Mexican cuisine is delightfully diverse, strongly regional and almost always bold (although not necessarily hot) in flavor. International restaurants features Italian, Japanese and French cuisine.
