Resort Description:
Our unit has full view of the ocean & sunset which made for absolutely blissful lunches and dinners on our balcony. The restaurants were superb too. There is lots to do for everyone. At the resort, our kids loved the waterslide, and the hot tubs & pools were great temperatures. They learned to snorkel from an instructor who is great with kids (they are little), and then they borrowed gear from the kid's club there and snorkeled all around. They had all sorts of fun activities for kids, the biggest hit of which was plaster sand-art, where they made imprints of their feet covered in sand and decorated with shells -- a nice momento! We had fun on the tennis courts, and there were an array of watersports to do at the resort.
Unit Description:
The unit has a full kitchen. We did really simple meal prep, like throwing a $5 frozen pizza in the oven, making quesadillas, etc, and having dinner on the balcony at sunset. That saved a ton of money and even more relaxing for us than eating at restaurants all the time with kids. We did sample the restaurants on the resort and were very impressed, and we heard rave reviews of other restaurants on the island from other guests.
There is a washer and drier inside the unit. That is such a nice thing to have when vacationing on the beach; I'm not sure how we ever did beach vacations without one!
The unit is huge and very comfortable for a range of #'s of people. We slept on the king bed in the master bedroom and each of our kids got their own double bed in the 2nd bedroom. With the pull-out sofabed in the living room, these sorts of units sleep 8 pretty comfortably as long as at least 2 of those are kids. We even did 10 in this sort of unit with 4 of those being kids, and that felt no more crowded than sleeping 4 in a hotel room, though it lacked the privacy that is so nice with fewer people.
Nearby Attractions:
There are lots of fun things to do out-and-about too. We went on an Altantis submarine that was a huge hit. We saw all kinds of cool fish in their native environment, and all kinds of great stuff on the reef. At nearby Coral World, they pet and fed stingrays and got to meet a sea lion doing tricks 3 feet away! We've done a lot of these kinds of things at much bigger parks like SeaWorld-Orlando and the like and this was far and away the best in terms of being up-close and connected with the creatures. We did an interesting tour of Blackbeard's castle. We swam with dolphins on Tortola (45 min boat ride) and then hired a driver to give us a tour of the island that was a lot of fun. There are also trips out to other islands that guests were raving about, like a half or whole day trips including places like Buck Island for snorkeling with giant sea turtles, the caves of Norman Island that the pirates used to use, the 'baths' of Virgin Gorda that are breathtaking. Everyone loves spending a day on St John enjoying to beaches and snorkeling there or the nature trails that go through lots of different kinds of vegetation. That's only a 15 min boat ride, and if you get a rental car, you can even take it with you on the car-ferry ($50 roundtrip for everyone, including the car).
Nearby Restaurants:
Some of the places on the resort include a poolside grille that serves delicious food where kids can keep playing through dinner, a beachside restaurant that has an amazing Caribbean buffet and Lobster buffet a couple nights a week, a nice casual restaurant a bit higher up that also has a great view, and a more formal restaurant that we didn't go to but heard good things about.
