To the south, the enchanting island of Tioman, with its fabled beaches, wild flowers growing in vivid profusion and cool waterfalls cascading down verdant slopes, is accessible by ferry from Mersing. Colourful batiks, woodcarvings, Dara jade jewellery and pretty shellcraft items are the tourist specialities in the province of Pahang, while skilled workers can be seen weaving silk sarongs with intricate designs in gold and silver at the brocade-weaving centre at Kampung Selamat.
