If you prefer peace and quiet away from the crowds and the noise Tulum is it. Tulum Mexico is the combination of a beach [coastline], archeological zone, and town. This resort is in the country a few miles outside the town. It is also within sight of the only Mayan ruin built by the sea. If you have seen pictures of Mayan ruins overlooking the ocean, that is Tulum. The resort has retained its old world charm, yet has all the modern conveniences. There are several restaurants, bars, a snack bar, a theater, nightly entertainment, and programs for the kids, even a charming chapel on the grounds. Along with the health club they even have bicycles so you can ride to the ruins! A beautiful white sandy beach is protected by the off shore reef. The water gently slopes away from the beach, making it possible to walk a long way out. There is a PADI dive shop on the beach with equipment rental so you can make your morning or afternoon dive trip right under the ruins. The resort has good food, good drinks, a great pool, and wonderful service. If you are intrigued by the Mayan ruins, along with Tulum, one of our other favorite spots in this part of the world is the city of Coba, not as widely known as many of the others, and still half covered in jungle, but a wonderful place to visit.
