Central Florida Timeshare Company to Pay Back Wages

Written by:

Timeshare companies make the news for all different reasons whether it be the latest timeshare scam or a timeshare company giving back to the community, the sad truth is the media will report more of the negative information about the timeshare industry as oppose to anything positive that happens. Unfortunately today another negative story was printed about an Orlando timeshare promotion company named, Central Florida Investments. This company works in association with Westgate Resorts finding individuals who are interested in ownership and convincing them to attend a timeshare promotion. For anyone not familiar with a timeshare promotion, it is basically a chance for the resort to bring people in and have them attend a sales presentation. In return for attending the presentation the interested person is normally compensated with free or discounted rates at the timeshare resort and normally receives free dinner at a local restaurant or tickets to shows or attractions.

It was found by the US Department of Labor that Central Florida Investments was not properly tracking or paying their employees for time spent contacting interested parties and booking timeshare promotions for them. Some of the allegations accuse the company of not paying employees’ minimum wage, $7.25 per hour in the United States, failing to pay appropriate commission for the bookings, incorrectly calculating over time pay for employees, and not keeping accurate timecard information. This disregard for the labor laws will wind up costing the company in a big way, to the amount of $800,000 which was collected and paid out to employees of Central Florida Investments. As anyone can imagine the employees are excited to see justice served in this instance and receive payment for work they had already performed.

Westgate Resorts is one of the most well known companies in the timeshare industry, some owner are very satisfied with their purchase of a resort operated by Westgate while others believe the company is among the worst in the timeshare industry. Even though Central Florida Investments and Westgate are not part of the same company sometimes simply being mentioned with a company in the news for a negative reason will tarnish another company’s image. Hopefully people will realize these are not the same companies and can distinguish one from the other, making this recent development have little or no effect on the image of Westgate.
