Surviving Between Vacations

Written by: Traver

We recently had one of the biggest travel holidays of the year; Independence Day is a time when many families and friends will hit the road utilizing their extra time off. With all the interest in travel leading up to this holiday my mind really started to wander and think about taking a long vacation since it has been a while since I had traveled for an extended period of time, i.e. more than a couple of days out of town. Most readers know that I am a huge believer in taking the time to get away from your everyday life for a while as often as possible, however it is sometimes not possible to take a long vacation so I have found there are some ways to step back for a while and recharge your battery even if you are unable to completely leave the area you live.

One way that I have found to get away from my normal routine for a while is to spend the day at the lake on Saturday or for the whole weekend. There are many lakes in the vicinity of my home town, many of which can be driven too in just a couple of hours. Since I was unable to take an extended vacation over the 4th of July holiday, some friends and I decided to visit one of the lakes in our area. Simply camping out over night, barbequing, boating, eating, laughing, and swimming was enough of an escape from home that I felt like I had been on a vacation for quite some time. Another activity that I enjoy along with thousands of people in the United States is golf. A round of golf can sometimes take up to five hours to play, I can’ think of a better way to spend an afternoon while forgetting about the stress of your daily life. If you are a timeshare owner who lives within driving distance of your resort you should consider taking a mini trip to your home timeshare resort. The resorts will often have activities for the family to participate in and you might be able to get a discounted rate for an over night stay simply for owning a unit at that resort. If you simply can not find a way to get out of town I do have one final suggestion for you, explore the town you live in. The Internet provides people with a wealth of information on activities and events that might be taking place in your home town or close to you. Just by doing a little research you may discover a museum, zoo, aquarium, and many other local attractions that you may not have otherwise learned about. Visiting a new location, even if it’s in your home town, can give you a sense of relaxation just as if you were on vacation in a totally different city.

I know that timeshare owners are some of the most resourceful people out there, what are some of the things that you do to get away without actually getting away?
