Make a List…….Check it Twice

Written by: Traver

Regular readers of my blog will know that I am on the home stretch for my South Lake Tahoe Vacation. I leave tomorrow, December 13th, and will return the following Saturday, December 20th. While preparing for my trip I found it very useful to make a list of all the items that I will need for my trip. This has helped me remember some of the common items are easily overlooked. I thought I would share part of the list with my readers, hopefully you will find it helpful in planning your next trip.

Since I am going on a snowboarding trip, the first thing I had on my list was my snowboard. This may seem like something that is obvious, but it helped me to remember to check all of the little things I will need while on the mountain. For example, boots, bindings, mittens, insulated socks, etc. There is nothing worse than getting to your destination and realizing you forgot something, even if it is not an accessory.

The next thing I wanted to make sure to bring was cash. While I do not recommend carrying large amounts of money it is always a good idea to carry a small amount of cash just in case. Thanks to modern day ATM/debit cards the days of carrying all of your cash are over. The transaction to get money from an ATM may cost you a couple of dollars, however that is much better than carrying a significant amount of cash and having the possibility of losing it.

I also wanted to make sure I had the appropriate clothes for my trip. I like to look at the local weather and see how cold/warm it will be while I am visiting. A few weeks ago when I began monitoring the weather for my trip, there were highs in the 50s and lows in the 20s, not to bad for a snowboarding trip. However, in the last week or so a cold front has been predicted to move in, now there are a couple of days where the temperature will dip down into single digits. Now I will make sure to bring the warmest clothes I have for the mountain and also for the times I will not be snowboarding.

It is also very important to remember to bring your resort confirmation receipt and information that you will need to check in. You always want the check in process to go smoothly, so you can begin to enjoy yourself the moment you arrive. Providing the front desk with confirmation of your reservation can speed this process along. Thanks to the Internet you can also check in and print out your boarding passes for flights online. This can save you a great amount of time and a giant headache, by not having to wait in a long line to check in at the airport.

One last thing that might be easy to forget is medication. I don’t have any prescription medication that I take on a normal basis, however I am aware that many people do. Something as routine as waking up and taking a prescription is easy to be taken for granted. Many people might consider this the most important item to take with them.

I know there are many other items that would make traveling more comfortable, but I wanted to go over some of the things I considered the most important. I would love to hear from our readers, what is your routine, or at the top of your travel list?
