memorabilia and clothing. You'll want to spend at
least an hour.
- Ten
minutes away you'll find the Arts Center in the
village of Historic Uptown Lexington. Check out
the exhibits and gift shop. Plan to spend at least
2 hours shopping nearby stores. Enjoy a sit-down
lunch. Relax.
Ready to go again? Only 10 minutes away is the community of Welcome.
Park your car and wander. You'll probably meet the artist, himself, at

- Dempsey
Essick Gallery. Right across the street, you'll
find locally handmade quilts, linens and furniture
at The Country Store.
And, behind The Dempsey Essick Gallery is the Richard Childress Racing
Museum. You've just got to see it!
Stop for a quick snack and continue your trip. You'll enjoy your goodies
when you get home!

Cookies 'n Candy
- Ever
wonder how they make thin Moravian cookies? Tour
Mrs. Hanes Handmade Moravian Cookie factory, just
25 minutes north of Lexington.
See how they mix, roll out and cook the dough. You don't have to breathe
deeply to get hooked! They come in six flavors. Betcha can't leave without
a boxful!
- Then
wind south on NC Hwy. 150 until you reach US 64.
Follow the signs to the village of Historic Uptown
Lexington. Park your car and stroll into The Candy
Factory, the original outlet store for Red Bird
Peppermint Candy. The manufacturing plant has moved,
but you can still see where it used to be.
- With
all this food on your mind, it's probably time for
lunch. Within walking distance, you'll find a variety
of restaurants. And who knows? You might just have
to spend a little more time shopping….

Tour d'Historical Markers
- Enjoy
rolling countryside and peaceful scenery? Looking
at old graveyards and churches? If so, set aside
about three hours and relive local history through
historical markers.
