We stayed at the Anchorage Resort in upper Key Largo and it was great. We had a one bedroom condo with the view that overlooks the marina and boats. (all the rooms have his water view with a small private balcony!!) It was updated with all the comforts of home. Plenty of cooking/kitchen stuff, as I enjoy cooking local foods when I travel. The local fish and seafood is the best in all of Florida... There is a local's hangout Tiki Bar just across the channel that has frozen drinks and live music everyday!(you can walk there) Everyone on the staff was really friendly! There is alot to do nearby, we went snorkling in John Pennicamp Underwater State Park (only about 4 miles from the resort) we went out to Grecian Rocks and to the underwater statue of Christ..It was wonderful ,the water is warm, clear and shallow lots of fish and coral heads ...We had a great time in Key Largo ! -Review courtesy of Grace Mahan (stayed during May, 2005) |

Anchorage is a beautiful Resort with all the amenities you could ask for. A great staff and beautiful apartments. A home away from home. Lots to do. Food, Fishing, Exploring, and Fun. -Review courtesy of BobRosen (stayed during May, 2005) |

My wife and I stayed at the resort in February 2009. It is older, but well maintained. The resort has large one bedroom units with roomy screened porch views of the bay and lovely sunsets. Music floats across the water from Gilberts resort each night. Very nice. The kitchen is small but basic cooking can be done and everything is provided except a conventional oven. Room includes two TV's and a VCR and DVD player. Living room has a hide-a-bed so the unit could sleep 4. Washer and dryer are available down the hall. The resort is on a marina, not a beach, but has a nice pool and hot tub as well as fishing right from the marina. Great local restaurants and Pennekamp State Park are just a very short drive away in Key Largo. The new bridge is finished and the access to the resort is easy and the noise from the old draw bridge is gone. A great resort for adults, but not for small children. My family has been vacationing at Anchorage for years. The improvements to the facilities over the years have been fantastic. The staff, Bernie and Jonna, are very friendly and helpful. Any requests are addressed immediately. The units have a nice large bedroom, kitchen is fine, but no oven, you can cook a nice meal in it. (but who wants to do a lot of cooking, after all it is a vacation). A great family spot. Fishing from the docks is fun. Right next door is a restaurant, bait store and boat rental. The resort is in a great location for trips to the Keys and into Miami (about 2 1/2 hours to Key West and about 45 minutes to Miami). The Resort has a nice pool, hot tub area, also a tennis court and shuffle board area. We watched a family having a shuffle board contest from our screened balcony one evening.
